Wish I could make it out to this, but the vehicle/financial situation has pretty much shut down any chance of my going to see a band before February 2009. Therefore, I need you to do a real good job at this gig so they keep hiring you back. That way, when I finally can get out, I'll be able to catch your group. I'm very much looking forward to it.

Have a great show.

Thanks Smitty.
That's very kind of you to say.

Actually, this is our third gig at Los Pinos and the owner Jeff, really likes us a lot so it looks at though we'll be a regular fixture there. Plenty of other opportunites for you to make a gig.
I really wish there were more jazz venues here, but it is what it is. Private parties/corporate functions are starting to take off and though they're not always the best gigs, it's a nice supplement and the pay is always good.

Hey, scan through the forums and you will find that, just over a year ago, I was constantly bitching about how we had NO jazz gigs around here. Back in March/April of this year, I hooked up with some cats to do a standards band (I was the baby in the bunch; these folks all gigged back in the 50s/60s jazz scenes and really knew their shit). By May, after we had put together a full show of tunes, the band gave up because we could find no possibilities to get gigs.

Now look at things. We have a couple of venues that will book jazz at least some of the time if not regularly. We have Skyward, which musically (so far, at least) sounds more like a smooth R&B thing than jazz but where, maybe, some jazz (what I call jazz, at least ;) ) might be happening soon. And, I'm feeling very inspired and hopeful by what your band is doing and look forward to this part of our music scene expanding over the next few years.
